General Mills, one of the largest food manufacturers, has issued an alarming recall of its popular bleached and unbleached flour products. The company discovered deadly Salmonella bacteria during a routine sampling of its 5-pound bags of flour.

This recall affects not only the 5-pound bags but also the 2-pound and 10-pound bags of Gold Medal Unbleached and Bleached All-Purpose Flour, which are staples in many households. The contaminated products have a “better if used by” date of March 27, 2024, and March 28, 2024.

Consumers who have these products in their pantry are urged not to consume them under any circumstances as Salmonella can cause severe illness or even death. The U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention warn that even handling raw flour can expose people to the bacteria.

General Mills is asking all customers to check their pantries and discard any affected product immediately. If you have already consumed any of these products and are experiencing symptoms such as fever, diarrhea, and abdominal pain, seek medical attention immediately.
